Tampa, Florida (April 2014) It’s simple… people need to know where to go, especially when traveling and flying out of major airports. Tampa International Airport has made a tremendous effort to help ease the stress that comes along with traveling. Knowing where to go with clear direction is a must. Part of the airport’s master plan renovations is to incorporate digital LED technology that would assist travelers to their next destination. GableSigns has recently completed the interior digital sign package.
Tampa International Airport recognizes that customers who are more informed are less stressed about traveling. They have focused on the overall customer experience by strategically placing dynamic digital displays in high traffic areas. The new displays are seen in the entrances to all shuttle lobbies and above the escalators that take you to the various levels of the airport. The media screens consist of arrival and departure schedules, airline carrier information, time and temperature, and a prime area for advertising.
GableSigns was selected as the provider of the dynamic digital signage for Tampa International Airport. The project included replacing existing signage with state-of-the-art high-resolution GableVision displays. Each sign is equipped with intelligent software solutions that is self-monitoring and sends an immediate notification if there is an outage or error.
A total of 9 signs were installed; four (4) 6’x36’ GableVision LED Digital Displays, located above the escalators that transport travelers to the baggage claim area. The other five (5) signs which span 5’x30’ are located above each entrance of the multiple shuttle lobbies. The custom signs consist of LED and LCD technology. The eye-catching digital displays not only showcase high resolution content but also brings valuable information to travelers in real time for flight arrivals and departures. Updates and changes are completed through one central location where everything is managed and controlled by the airport’s IT team. In addition, the high resolution LED boards allow the airport the opportunity to sell valuable ad space.
“Technology is becoming more important within our daily lives and we are continuing to see this trend growing throughout many industries. Businesses want to have more control and the ability to change messages and graphics instantly, all while improving and maintaining the aesthetics. Airports around the world, like Tampa International, embrace the digital era and have incorporated technology into their plans, giving the thousands of travelers who come to the airport a way to stay connected. Airports are now expected to provide modern conveniences to business professionals and families.” David Chapman (Project Development/GableSigns, Tampa, Florida).
The recently awarded contract further establishes GableSigns’ relationship as a business provider of products and services to the Tampa International Airport. As part of the airport’s master plan, GableSigns has also completed an extensive exterior wayfinding sign package. The scope of work included brand identification signs for multiple airline carriers and overhead traffic marker signs to help visitors navigate and find their way around the airport.
Tampa International Airport is fully underway in its renovations. Through their vision and the assistance of architectural design firm, Gresham, Smith and Partners, the airport which provides services to over 16.5 million travelers annually will continue to see enhancements and modernized improvements.
